Gebirgsjäger Team - German Mountain Infantry | 4 Figures
The Edelweiss men. They fought where the tanks couldn’t follow.
Every army had ground its armor couldn’t reach: mountain passes, arctic tundra, ridgelines with no roads at all. For the Wehrmacht, that ground belonged to the Gebirgsjäger, light infantry trained and equipped for mountain and winter warfare and identified by the Edelweiss badge on the cap and sleeve.
They carried everything on their backs. They moved on skis and on foot through terrain where one wrong step on a ridgeline could kill a man as surely as enemy fire. Narvik in 1940. Crete in 1941. The Caucasus in 1942. Years on the Arctic front around Murmansk, and the mountains of Italy.
Their signature was the Bergmütze, the short-brimmed mountain cap so practical that it became the template for the M43 field cap issued across the entire Wehrmacht. Over the uniform went the M42 Windbluse, the Gebirgsjäger’s pullover anorak: tan or olive on one side and white on the other, so a man could match the mountain in any season.
This team captures them on the move in winter: an officer on skis, a machine gunner and submachine gunner ready for the fight, and a rifleman turned out in winter white with a snow-caked helmet.
