Built by a Collector, For Collectors
The story of how one frustrated builder created the brand he couldn't find, and discovered his father's legacy in the process.
The story of how one frustrated builder created the brand he couldn't find, and discovered his father's legacy in the process.
Christmas 2005. I was 10 years old, and I knew exactly what I wanted: WWII building block sets. Tiger tanks. Sherman tanks. Anything military.
My father's response was simple and final: "LEGO doesn't make military sets. Never will."
I accepted this was "just how it was." If you wanted WWII vehicles in building block form, you were out of luck.
For 20 years, I believed premium building-block military kits simply didn't exist.
What My Father Taught Me
My father ran a small business out of his garage. Every weekend, my time off from school, he'd make me tag along on customer deliveries. I just wanted to stay home and play. He made me go anyway.
He treated his customers like gold. He'd spend hours with them, making them laugh, making them smile. I'd be in the truck thinking, "Can we please just go?"
When the Great Recession hit, he had to close up shop and take a stable job.
For years, I thought I knew why his business failed. He wasn't efficient. How could you run a business spending hours with one customer? It didn't make sense.
I thought that all the way until six months ago.
July 2025. Twenty years after that Christmas morning, I saw an advertisement for building-block military tanks.
"They existed. All this time, they existed."
After two decades of believing these kits were impossible, I discovered they were real. The childhood wish my father said could never happen was happening.
I ordered immediately.
Six weeks later, a crushed box arrived.
Missing parts. Defective pieces. No quality control whatsoever.
I tried to contact the seller. Complete silence. No phone number. No real company. Just someone who took my money and disappeared.
Zero customer service. Zero accountability. Zero recourse.
Sound familiar?
But here's what I realized: The kits themselves were incredible. Someone was actually manufacturing museum-grade WWII building blocks. They just weren't making it to collectors the right way.
I made a decision:
"I'm going to do this right."
When I started BrixKrieg, I thought I was just solving my own problem.
Then the messages started coming in:
"Thank you for this."
"Thank you for doing business the way it should be done."
"Finally, someone who actually cares."
That's when it hit me.
My father wasn't bad with money. He wasn't failing because he spent hours with one customer.
He was building relationships. He was treating people the way they deserved to be treated. He was doing business the right way in a world that increasingly didn't care.
The Great Recession didn't kill his business because he did something wrong. It killed his business because the world prioritized speed and scale over people.
My father taught me everything I know about how to care for customers. I just didn't know it until now.
He passed in 2018. He never got to see BrixKrieg.
But in a way, this is his business. This is his way of treating customers. This is what he taught me on those weekend deliveries when I just wanted to stay home and play.
This is honoring his memory by doing it right.
