Tiger II - Late Production

$79.00 USD

The Tiger II was a German heavy tank used during World War II, officially known as Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B or Tiger B, with the ordnance inventory number Sd.Kfz. 182; command versions were designated Sd.Kfz. 267 and 268. Nicknamed Königstiger, meaning Bengal tiger or "King Tiger" in German, it was also called King Tiger or Royal Tiger by Allied forces. Only 492 units were produced. The sole operational example is exhibited at the Musée des Blindés in Saumur, France, featuring a production turret and open to visitors. This tank belonged to the 3rd Company of schwere Panzerabteilung 503 and was reportedly abandoned by its crew on August 23, 1944, near Brueil-en-Vexin due to engine failure. It was recovered by the French Army in September 1944, stored in Satory, and transferred to the museum in 1975. Initially thought to bear turret number 123, the museum’s founder, Colonel Michel Aubry, assigned it number 233 to honor the Tiger II that destroyed his Sherman tank. Recent research has restored its original turret number 300 based on historical photographs.
